Day 7

Forty Days of Preparation Daily Devotions

Day Seven
Lord Bless My City
Prov 11:11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
People often talk about the moral decay of our cities and society as a whole. There is something you can do about the condition of your city. Pray! Yes, pray for your city. Pray that the city leaders make godly decisions. Pray for the prosperity of your city. Bind the spirit of murder and other crimes in your city. Pray for businesses that would be a positive rather that a negative influence in the city. You have that authority as a believer to pray against businesses that would promote pornography, witchcraft, gambling, etc. Ask God's blessing over your city. You may want to walk or drive around the city as you pray. Some things you can pray for your city include:
A. Let the righteous be in authority.
Prov 11:10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
Prov 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
B. Lord send revival to our city.
Acts 8:5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city.
C. Lord make our city peaceful and prosperous.
Ps 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
D. Lord heal our city.
2 Chron 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Prayer instructions:   In addition to the points above, make a list of key leaders in the city that you will pray for. Also include people of influence on your prayer list. Pray for your city's institutions such as government departments, schools, jails, shelters. Pray for the body of Christ (the churches in your city). Pray for quality jobs to come to the city. Ask God to help your city be known for positive things e.g. the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
