Day Thirty-Four
Let My Speech Be Seasoned With Salt

Col 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
We must let the love and grace of God manifest through the way we talk to others. The Bible says in James 3:2 "¦If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Words are your justification or your condemnation. Purpose to say the right things in the right way. Voice tones and body gestures are a part of your speech. Let your speech be with grace and seasoned with salt. Here are some points to consider as you speak to others:

A. Your speech can minister life to or break the Spirit of others.
Prov 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

B. Your tone of woice is important.
Prov 15:1-4 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. 4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

C. Saying the right thing at the right time is important.
Prov 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Isa 50:4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

Prov 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

D. The words of the mouth are a reflection of the heart.
Matt 12:34-37 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

E. No corrupt communication should come out of your mouth.
Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Prov 18:8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Prov 16:28 An evil man sows strife; gossip separates the best of friends. 29 Wickedness loves company-and leads others into sin. TLB
Prov 26:20-22 Fire goes out for lack of fuel, and tensions disappear when gossip stops. 21 A quarrelsome man starts fights as easily as a match sets fire to paper. 22 Gossip is a dainty morsel eaten with great relish. TLB

Sample Prayer"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Ps 19:14 Lord help me speak with grace and minister your love to others. In Jesus name, Amen.
